What inspired you to start your business?
Aside from the fact that I freaken love what I do….I had been successfully contracting for a while and thought I could do this! I wanted to benefit from the hard work I was putting in and grow a practice that gave me financial security.
Tell us about your business?
We are Vital Body Osteopathy & Massage located out of Milford, Auckland. We’re a highly trained bunch and lecture in our professions when we’re not treating – so we walk the talk. We treat a huge variety of patients from your hardworking corporates through to national and international athletes. It’s fair to say there’s not much we haven’t seen or treated.
What do you love about running your business?
The sky really is the limit when you have your own business – which you’ll never find in a 9-5 (boring! 😉). I love having the ability to grow the practice and see how far I can take it.
What have been some of your biggest challenges?
Wearing many hats while it’s growing and feeling like you are the whirling around like the Tazzy Devil! It’s tough having to do it all at the start and even tougher learning to let go of hats as you grow. Sometimes it can be overwhelming, and you can be full of self-doubt so you just have to keep swimming…
Do you have a favourite quote?
See above…just keep swimming Dori 😊
Who inspires you, and why?
In business – many! In life – my Sister and Mum. Both exhibit extraordinary determination with a beautiful blend of empathy. If I end up half the women that they are, I’ve done pretty well.
What growth have you experienced being in Venus?
Venus is full of super inspiring woman that help you file your self-doubt in the appropriate ‘waste of energy’ box and make you believe you can do it. Surrounding yourself in the women that wish for your success as much as you do is so empowering.
Women are redefining success and growing businesses on their terms: What does success look like to you?
Growing a business that I can step away from and it stills making a healthy profit. Ultimately, having a practice that satiates my need for brain stimulation in my retirement should I care to, or just helps fund my travel excursions when I’m holding up my lady lumps with my bikini bottoms while drinking my pina coladas on the beach….you’re welcome for that visual :-)
What’s your favourite pastime when you are not working?
Dusting off my guitar and belting out some tunes – sorry neighbours!
